Christmas In Bruges Frequently Asked Questions

The Christmas markets, as part of the Winter Glow programme, run from 21 November 2025 to 4 January 2026. On weekdays the market usually opens around 11:00, and on Fridays/Saturdays stays open later in the evening.

The main market locations are the historic Markt Square (grand Christmas market) and Simon Stevinplein (focused on crafts and local produce).

There are several car parks in and around the city. Because the centre gets busy during the festive period, we recommend arriving earlier in the day or considering a Park & Ride outside the centre and using public transport.

Winter in Bruges is typically cold and damp, daily highs in December/January average around 6‑7 °C, with nights closer to 2‑3 °C. Rain is common, so warm layers, waterproof outerwear and good footwear are advised.

Yes, alongside the markets, there are child‑friendly attractions including light trails, skating rinks, festive workshops and the arrival of Sinterklaas (in early December). These make for a joyful family experience during your stay.

The festive markets remain open during the holiday season though with modified hours. For example, on certain days the market may close earlier. New Year’s Eve may have extended evening hours and special light‑trail events, it’s a lively time to stay in Bruges.
