Top events in Bruges that you should not miss this year!

Bruges is the perfect place for a family break, couples escape or even a solo holiday as there is so much to do here and see here from medieval architecture, beautiful scenery, shopping, museums and not forgetting sampling the delicious Belgium beer. If you like to do a lot of sightseeing and exploring on holiday, we created a list of some of the top events coming up this year so that you don’t miss out on the fun.

MAfestival

The festival Musica Antiqua Bruges a festival has dated back as far as 1960. The programme thrives to bring innovation to the world for early music.  This programme takes place on 13 August, every summer the programme presents an array of concerts, conferences historical instruments exhibitions and a series of Fringe concerts for young and promising ensembles, all across Bruges and its surroundings. In a dialogue between today’s musicians and today’s audience, the festival unites tradition with a contemporary vision and presentation.

Pieter Pourbus. Master of Maps

Musea Brugge is a cultural heritage institution that connects powerful and diverse collections to its people and society, representing the past, future and present.  There are many exhibitions on display here, but one not to miss has to be Pieter Pourbus. Master of Maps. Back in 1561, the largest and richest castellany in Flanders commissioned painter Pieter Pourbus to paint of map of its entire region – roads, villages, towns, every inch of the territory. Ten years later, the artist-cartographer delivered his completed magnum opus to his patrons. In this exhibition, this map of course occupies the main position both literally and figuratively. You can use magnifying glasses and digital screens to use the iconic map and get lost in the 16th-century medieval landscape of Bruges.

Bruges Beer Festival 2023

A trip to Belgium isn’t complete without having a glorious Belgian pint of beer. Better yet if you are visiting between June 10th and 11th 2023, you must attend the fifteen editions of the beer festival located at the new Bruges Meeting & Convention Centre in the city centre. Here you can taste a broad range of Belgian beers, from well-known classic beers to brand-new beers, from large producers to microbrewery beers. The festival for beer enthusiasts during your trip to Bruges.

Swimming in the Coupure

In the summer months from June to August, you can experience a memorable experience on your trip can swimming outdoors in one of the canals in Bruges. Soak up the sunshine and the beautiful medieval architecture as you swim a lap of the city. This is completely free of charge and is available from 1 pm until 9 pm. Showers and toilets are available, but there are no changing rooms, so don’t forget to already put on your swimsuit!

Cactus Festival

Taking place from the 7th -the 9th of July, the cactus festival is ideal for everyone and is child friendly for those on a family holiday. This is an outdoor music festival located in the tranquil Minnewater Park. It is one of the smaller-scale music festival in the country. The atmosphere is very relaxed and has something for everyone involved.
